IN AN INDUSTRY WHERE IT IS THE NORM TO RETRENCH – BE DIFFERENT AND SUCCEED!
In an industry where it is the norm to retrench employees because of lack of projects, we say do the opposite. Hire.
Increase your abilities to deliver to your clients, increase your work force, be bigger than the problem and get a shoulder-to-shoulder effort out of each of your employees to help get the production up. Don’t downsize, what’s the sense in that?
What is the sense in reducing the production capabilities of your business when the production of your business is already at it’s lowest? Are you trying to increase by decreasing? How does that work?
Are you trying to survive or die?
Increase the production and man power, that’s the only way to get bigger and to get yourself and your business out the trouble its in. Don’t try to get yourself out of trouble by getting yourself further into trouble. Logic doesn’t even begin to work like that.
Here’s an analogy: what happens when you downsize the infantry on the ground? Can they take out their enemy faster and more efficiently with a bare minimum of troops on the ground? Can they win over the enemy or not?
They can only go so much, correct?
Now what happens when you increase the force? There is a lot more production correct?
So why downsize?
Matter of fact you should be recruiting like mad when you have less production coming out your business. Why? Because you need that extra workforce to get your business’ production up and out of the mess its in! Otherwise your business can only produce so much.
Four guys in a business can only produce what fours guys in a business can do. Ten guys in a business can only produce what ten guys in a business can produce. Common logic.
I read an article where the author stated that the power of an organization is measured by the number of its members.
Think about that for a moment, what is the power of your organization judged by, in todays world? Money? No it is judged by how many members it has.
How many people are part of your organization measures its strength. Money naturally comes to those producing on a large scale to get to a purpose.
Now, if you got a small group working to make money they can only push and go so far, but where you have a large group pushing to get the production of a business, organization or enterprise up, you have massive push and with that comes massive pull in. Massive Income.
That’s right, retrenchment only allows you to produce that much.
I’ll give you an example, if ten guys are pushing a boulder up a mountain and 3 of them are barely contributing to the motion, 1 isn’t doing any work at all and two or practically not even pushing, the weight of the boulder lies on a desperate few. The four men.
In the world today, they’d fire the six guys not putting a shoulder-to-shoulder effort so that the guys who are carrying the weight hope to get all the fruits of their efforts.
But when you do that what happens to the boulder? What happens to the four desperate men holding the boulder?
Is there going to be any motion on the boulder? Is the weight going to get easier? No, they’re going to get overwhelmed and eventually the weight crashes them down and they die. They loose that company or they decide to close shop or they give up.
Decreasing manpower is clearly not the right path.
What happens if one of the desperate few decided to get the other 6 men contributing to the motion? He went and got them off their butts and contributing to the push. And on top of that, increased the amount of manpower needed to get the boulder up the mountain by employing new faces and getting these new employees to contribute to the motion too, what do you think would happen to the boulder then?
Can you see that there would be more production? That the boulder would move, it would begin to go upward and not downward on them?
It even begins to generate speed and what do you know, you get to the top of the mountain.
In other words, when all efforts are aligned to a single thrust a tremendous amount of power is generated.
Don’t retrench, get people producing, keep them on the job, and keep them on the purpose of the business.
See, the purpose here is to get that boulder up the mountain.
Now I ask you, what is the purpose of your contracting firm? Is it to build something?
Build upmarket office blocks? Upmarket homes that comfortably house South African citizens?
Or is it to create roads and freeways that are high in standard that South Africans can safely travel on?
Or is it to create infrastructure in districts lacking it so as to increase the value of our country?
What is the purpose of your contracting firm?
Get your employees to help make that purpose become a reality by getting them to put a shoulder-to-shoulder effort in that direction that will bring that purpose to fruition. Don’t retrench!
Get them producing, keep them on the purpose of your business so that they’re excited about it, they want to help you bring it to reality and are on the exact same mission as you and what do you know, your business begins to expands and excel.
I guarantee you that when you do that, your employees will begin to feel proud, their morale will go up and they’ll be on the same mission as you because ultimately that was once their purpose too.
They became Engineers, Designers, Draughtsman & Contractors because they had the same vision and purpose as you once upon a time. So it is up to you to get them doing it with you.
Which brings me to why Surge Staffing Solutions is here. We share that purpose too.
And I think it is every recruitment agencies purposes but I won’t lie, many recruitment agencies have fallen short of this purposes. Money has become their sole purpose in the business.
Money is purposeless without it flowing towards a purpose!
So I say to you, hire, get your employees producing the basic purpose of the firm and let’s get your business producing the products you created the business to do in the first place. It’s never to late to rekindle that purpose!
Be great! – D. Lewis
